Heavy rainfall may have made the final round of the Alberta Ladies Amateur Championship impossible to play, but it wasn’t enough to stop Yeji Kwon from being declared champion.

On Wednesday morning, the 14-year-old became the Alberta champ after the Lakeside Golf Club, in Chestermere, was deemed unplayable for the final round of competition.

Kwon, who is in the eighth grade and from Coquitlam, B.C., shot rounds of 70 and 74 to edge out Canadian national amateur team member Noemie Pare, of Quebec, by one stroke.

“I’ve been practising really hard every day, a lot of hours, and it’s hard on the nerves to compete against these great players,” Kwon said in a press release after Round 2. “The effort I’ve put into practising would make it really good to win.”

In the Alberta Mid-Amateur Championship, Kylie Barros is the new champion, while Andrea Kosa took the Mid-Master title. The Alberta Overall Low Net title went to Morgan Bell.
